**About the role
The Indigenous Liaison Service provides support and assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, families and Communities, across all facilities, in the West Moreton Health (WMH).
The purpose of this role is to provide direct support and assistance to both Clinicians within the Mental Health and Specialised Services Division and to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander in-patients, families and Communities across the West Moreton region. The position is responsible for improving the delivery of culturally appropriate Mental Health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, including supporting accessible and equitable health outcomes, in the context of meeting individual needs.
The aim of the role is to achieve improved mental health outcomes for First Nations peoples accessing the mental health service, as per the objectives of the West Moreton Health First Nations Health Equity Strategy
This role is classified in accordance with the Phase 2 outcome provided under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce (Queensland Health) Certified Agreement (No A Phase 3 process will occur to confirm the classification of the role. This process may result in changes to the role description, position title and classification and remuneration levels, however there will be no loss of employment conditions or remuneration for employees.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
Ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (including patients, carers and communities) within a health related context and have a clear understanding of contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, protocols and health related procedures.
Proven ability to sensitively communicate with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds while advocating on behalf of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly within a complex healthcare environment.
Ability to communicate effectively (both written and orally), including preparing complex reports. The proven ability to respond directly to concerns of patients, carers and family members in an appropriate manner.
Expertise and knowledge of relevant ICT systems for both patient specific information and relevant statistical data, inclusive of collection, collation and reporting towards improving Indigenous Health outcomes.
Ability to actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour
Mandatory Requirements:
Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld) it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
