Primary objective

Provide quality analysis, insights and visualisations on economic, demographic, workforce and industry-related data relevant

to the Northern Territory.

Context statement

The Department of Trade, Business and Asian Relations (DTBAR) is the Northern Territory Government's lead agency to

shape an enabling environment that activates industry, attracts investment and drives business growth to sustain a vibrant

Territory economy and lifestyle. The Analytics and Insights unit provides across-agency support through the provision of

data, analysis, insights and advice to support the priorities and functions of the Department.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Oversee the collection, cleaning and validation of data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability.

2. Lead the maintenance and enhancement of data systems, ensuring robust and efficient data management systems.

3. Perform advanced data and statistical analysis to uncover trends, patterns and insights that support Departmental

decision-making.

4. Lead the design and delivery of engaging reports, dashboards, infographics, and other visual tools that effectively

communicate data into actionable insights.

5. Lead collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver data and insights projects for the Department.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, and business intelligence and data visualisation tools such as

Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Canva, or similar applications.

2. Proven ability to present data and insights in innovative, engaging and visually compelling formats, tailored to diverse

audiences and decision-making contexts.

3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

4. Strong planning, problem-solving, and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and deliver in a fast-paced

environment

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualification in data science, statistics, or a related discipline

1. Experience in economic modelling using specialised software (such as EViews or Stata) and managing and manipulating

databases using tools such as SQL.
