Job Description
The Construction Manager is responsible for the successful delivery of civil construction projects, ensuring works are completed safely, on time, within budget and in accordance with contractual, quality, environmental and statutory requirements.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, this role oversees Engineers, Area Foremen, surveyors, subcontractors and site personnel, and provides leadership across all aspects of construction operations.
Key Responsibilities
Contracts Administration
* Manage contract pre-commencement activities with Superintendents, statutory authorities and consulting engineers
* Coordinate pre-ordering of materials and engagement of subcontractors and suppliers
* Plan and manage site personnel and construction resources
* Liaise with Engineers and Area Foremen on work programmes
* Resolve construction and delivery issues
* Record, assess and negotiate variations
* Monitor progress, authorise invoices and prepare monthly progress claims
Quality Management
* Implement and maintain Project Quality Plans
* Act as Quality Management Representative where required
* Maintain and manage project quality records in accordance with company systems
Occupational Health & Safety
* Ensure compliance with company OH&S policies and procedures
* Maintain compliance with Workplace Safety OH&S Act and Road Management Act
* Oversee Safe Work Method Statements, site risk assessments and inductions
* Supervise subcontractors to ensure OH&S compliance
Environmental Management
* Identify and report environmental incidents
* Develop and implement Site Environmental Management Plans
* Control environmental impacts and ensure statutory compliance
Construction Operations
* Ensure projects are delivered efficiently, on time and within budget
* Manage workforce resourcing and absenteeism
* Attend and lead formal site meetings
* Ensure Extensions of Time are submitted in accordance with contract requirements
Skills & Experience
* Degree in Civil Engineering from an approved tertiary institution
* Significant experience in civil construction
* Strong leadership and people management skills
* Excellent communication skills with clients, consultants and site teams
* Strong commercial awareness and problem-solving ability
