About the Role
We are seeking a proactive WHS Support Assistant / WHS Officer to support operational safety initiatives across Rottnest Island and Fremantle locations. This role is responsible for providing guidance, support, and operational oversight on work health and safety (WHS) matters, including incident investigations, risk assessments, and safety inspections.
You will work closely with the WHS Manager and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with the WA Work Health and Safety Act 2020, relevant regulations, and Codes of Practice. The position is suited to a self-motivated candidate with strong communication skills who can manage competing priorities in operational and high-risk environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct incident investigations and develop corrective and preventative actions.
* Provide operational WHS guidance and support to teams and stakeholders.
* Undertake and coordinate WHS inspections across operational sites.
* Engage and consult with stakeholders on WHS matters to maintain a safe workplace.
* Deliver WHS coaching and training where required.
* Support the WHS Manager with operational safety initiatives, projects, and compliance activities.
Essential Skills, Tickets, and Experience
* Formal WHS qualification (nationally recognised in Australia).
* Strong understanding of the WA Work Health and Safety Act 2020, WHS Regulations, and relevant Codes of Practice.
* Demonstrated experience in incident investigations, risk assessments, and WHS inspections.
* Experience working in operational or high-risk environments (e.g., construction, mobile plant, contractor management).
* Ability to analyse WHS data, identify trends, and implement corrective actions.
* Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and report writing skills.
* Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
