We're now on the hunt for aSenior Database Administrator (APS6 equivalent)to support this nationally significant project.
About the Role
This role is critical to the success of the AEC's reform initiatives.
You will bring deep expertise inMicrosoft SQL Server, includingSSAS,SSIS,T-SQL, and data performance tuning, along with a strong understanding of data governance and thePrivacy Act 1988.
As part of a high-performing cross-functional team, you'll be responsible for ensuring the performance, security, and scalability of enterprise-grade database environments that underpin the integrity of Australia's electoral systems.
Configure, monitor, and optimise environments including SSAS & SSIS
Tune databases and troubleshoot performance issues using SQL Profiler
Data Security & Compliance
Enforce access controls, encryption, and auditing
Ensure strict compliance with thePrivacy Act 1988
Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies
Regularly test DR procedures to ensure readiness
Write, debug, and optimise complex T-SQL queries
Support developers and analysts with performant data models
Produce technical documentation that can be easily understood
Translate complex database issues to non-technical audiences
Work closely with developers, analysts, and program stakeholders
Provide expert advice on database architecture, performance, and security
Support potential transitions toAzure cloud-based database platforms
To thrive in this role, you'll need:
Proven experiencein a similar role—Database Administrator, Data Engineer, or Developer
Stronganalytical and numerical reasoning skills
Deep expertise inSQL Server, including SSAS and SSIS
Programming experience with:
SQL
C#
Python
R
BIML
Strong experience withPower BI:
Report development and publishing
Workspace management and access control
Power BI Cloud Services administration
Advanced capability in:
Writing and optimising T-SQL queries
Debugging and performance tuning
Backup and recovery strategies
A tertiary qualification and/orrelevant certificationsin software, data, or IT disciplines
While not essential, experience with the following will be highly regarded:
Azure cloud-based databases– especially knowledge of cloud-native architectures
Database migration, management, cost optimisation in a cloud environment
