The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Category Specialist to join our central Procurement team on a permanent basis. You will initially be responsible for supporting logistics procurement activity across our business units including road and rail transport, shipping, marine services, and storage services across the WesCEF division.
Reporting to the Category Manager Operations, you will be joining a supportive and dynamic team of experienced procurement and category management professionals. You will thrive in a busy environment, working in close partnership with our businesses to deliver value through strong commercial outcomes aligned with our business values and objectives, and procedural and statutory requirements. Whilst this role will initially be focusing on logistics procurement we expect there to be opportunities to rotate between categories over time.
Responsibilities will include:
* Understanding end-to-end logistics Category and market demands and meeting customer requirements, as well as developing partnering relationships with internal customers.
* Develop, prioritise and execute strategy development based on Category and customer demands, sourcing, category and Supplier management plans to support business continuity.
* Provide advice and guidance to stakeholders in drafting high risk, complex scopes of work with tailored commercial outcomes.
* Lead concurrent sourcing processes and contract formation activities such as Tender, commercial assessment and negotiations, risk apportionment/contract drafting etc.
* Lead and engage with internal customers to deliver effective Supplier management aligned with WesCEF's values. This includes pre-mobilisation, integration, reviews, commercial communications, change management, KPI monitoring, close-out activities, and supplier relationship management (SRM).
* Lead dispute management, including non-conformance (NCR) and defect management.
* Ensure category management activities comply with WesCEF's values, internal and external standards, licences and regulations.
* Champion ethical sourcing and Aboriginal procurement in your Category.
About You
* Relevant qualification in related discipline e.g. Business, Analytics, Law or equivalent Membership of relevant professional bodies.
* 8+ years' experience as a category specialist (preferably within an industrial environment), with the ability to independently manage complex sourcing activities, analyse commercial and operational data to drive value, negotiate with suppliers, and implement category strategies.
* Strong understanding of transport regulatory compliance including transport and logistics requirements such as Incoterms, customs procedures, and dangerous goods regulations.
* Exposure to other categories such as Materials & Goods, Equipment, Facilities Management, or Corporate procurement will be highly regarded.
* Proven ability to engage and influence stakeholders at both operational and executive levels, with a sharp focus on collaborating to identify challenges and uncover opportunities that drive superior technical and commercial outcomes.
* Experienced in risk-based contracting, including complex negotiations and contract drafting and a strong understanding of Category Management methodologies and Strategic Sourcing skills in an industrial environment.
* An agile thinker with a strong continuous improvement mindset, able to adapt in dynamic environments and proactively identify opportunities to streamline processes and add value.
* Knowledge of procurement modules of Oracle, eBusiness, JDE, SAP or similar.
