The Role

The Exhibitions Section has responsibility for the development and management of the Memorial's galleries and touring exhibitions programme. This includes the planning and delivery of permanent and temporary exhibitions, displays and travelling exhibitions, including the implementation of an extensive gallery maintenance programme and integration during the Development Project.

The Exhibitions Team Leader works directly to the EL1, Manager, Exhibitions and EL2 Head, Exhibitions as required. The position requires experience in the delivery of interpretative exhibition design projects within the museum or cultural sector; an understanding of museum practice; the ability to contribute to several projects simultaneously at various stages; and high-level communication and liaison skills.

This role provides project management and administrative support to a wide range of exhibition and gallery maintenance projects. The role exercises reasonable independence and accountability in the application of practices and procedures, sets individual priorities and manages workflows.

The Exhibition Team Leader provides technical advice and expertise in relation to complex issues of exhibition design and development, including foreshadowing problems, assessing risk, and proposing appropriate and innovative solutions

This position involves manual handling.

Core Responsibilities

Working under limited direction, provides project management support and implementation in the planning and maintenance of the Memorial's permanent, temporary and touring exhibitions program, including:

* Coordinate and project manage the delivery of exhibition documentation, including curatorial, collection, design and production, fabrication and construction documentation through to installation;
* Establish and monitor exhibition lists;
* Design and project manage bespoke interpretive floor plans and elevations for Memorial displays and touring exhibitions; and amendment of exhibition artwork files as necessary;
* Draft briefing material, contribute to the preparation of reports, grants, sponsorship proposals and acquittals;
* Draft, monitor and report on project budgets and schedules;
* Manage the installation and demount of exhibitions at the Memorial and touring venues, and supervises the work of other venue staff on tour;
* Establish and maintain productive working relationships with stakeholders;
* Review and draft procedural documents, and assist in the implementation of exhibition policies and practices;
* Contribute to Section planning;
* Demonstrate best practice in relation to manual handling and movement of a wide range of collection material, exhibition infrastructure, including graphic material, showcasing and exhibition furniture.

Position Eligibility

* Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
* All applicants external to AWM that are offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a National Police Check, even if they currently hold a security clearance. The check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.
