Job Description
Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self‐motivated Principal RAMS Engineer who thrives in a fast‐paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Brisbane, Australia.
Key accountabilities
* Guarantee the estimate of the RAMS and ensure V&V activities and agree with the PM and the project controller the relevant budget.
* Organize, schedule, implement project RAMS and monitor V&V activities and ensure compliance with project budget, schedule and quality requirements.
* Ensure the definition and application of the Project V&V governance strategy and guidelines for the integrated System and for any relevant subsystem/ product, verifying the related implementation through V&V Plan review and approval.
* Ensure system safety and reliability requirements.
* Ensure the issue of project RAMS documentation.
* Guarantee the safety assessment (ISA) certification (NoBo)
* Ensure the execution and issuing of all project RAMS activities and deliverables, interfacing with PM, PE and other departments as required, ensuring information flow to/from the project RAMS team.
* Ensure the execution and the sharing of communication to the PM of the following activities:
* Workload management with periodic workload updates and analysis of deviations
* Critical path management and alignment of RAMS schedule with project master schedule, to avoid unplanned interruption of activities in RAMS stream
* A proactive risk management for early detection of cost, schedule, technical and resource issues and proposal of recovery plans
* Ensure a front‐loading approach to anticipate and avoid technical, schedule and budget issues that could negatively affect RAMS activities.
* Contribute to the improvement of RAMS and V&V standard processes, with focus on effectiveness and cost reduction.
* Ensure the application of RAMS standard processes and share project lessons learned with the RAMS department
* Support preparation of bids and proposals.
* Ensure the provision of schedule and cost constraints to relevant Product, Signalling and System RAMS Engineers
* Assist with the development and delivery of System Safety and RAM training and related competency assessments.
Key knowledge and experience
* A bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
* At least ten years of experience in signalling or another safety‐critical engineering area.
* At least ten years of RAMS experience that has incorporated the use of appropriate safety engineering techniques, such as PHA, FTA, FMEA, etc.
* Proven experience in a risk‐sharing alliance model would be advantageous in the role.
* Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Attention to detail and organisational abilities.
* Able to work within a team and adopt a proactive problem‐solving approach.
* Knowledge and experience of working on complex rail projects is preferable (ETCS systems).
