Location: Town Hall Annexe- Level 2 Employment status: Temporary Fixed Term - One Year (Maternity Leave Cover) Classification: Municipal Officer Level 5 Agreement: Hobart City Council Enterprise Agreement 2024 Salary range: $119,423 per annum + 13.5% superannuation.
About the role
The Hobart City Council employs approximately 750 employees across multiple sites. Reporting to the Manager People & Culture, the Principal People & Culture Operations, leads a team of six direct reports who specialise in talent acquisition, payroll, and general human resources.
The role involves various responsibilities across strategic, corporate, group, leadership, and professional advice domains, including:
* Develop and implement talent acquisition and management strategies aligned with the City's values and objectives.
* Integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives into organisational programs.
* Provide support for workforce planning and remuneration strategies.
* Oversee payroll processes, provide specialist advice on recruitment, employee relations, and other HR matters.
* Provide leadership to payroll and talent acquisition teams.
* Ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
* Deliver HR services and talent management solutions effectively.
* Influence and support leaders in fostering an organisational culture aligned with the City's values.
* Champion HR initiatives and challenge practices misaligned with organisational goals.
* Offer expert guidance on talent acquisition processes, candidate experience, and integration of organisational values throughout the employee lifecycle.
* Overall, the role involves driving strategic HR initiatives, providing support and guidance to leaders and teams, ensuring compliance, and fostering a positive organisational culture.

What you will bring:
* A Degree in Human Resource Management or a related field.
* Minimum Two years in a senior HR role, with hands-on experience in: Recruitment & retention, Employee relations, Payroll, remuneration & benefits.
* Deep knowledge of modern awards, Agreements, and HR legislation.
* A warm, approachable style paired with professionalism and excellent communication.
* High levels of compassion, integrity, and the ability to have open, honest conversations at all levels.
* Strong problem-solving and multi-tasking skills, with a knack for meeting deadlines.
* Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a high-performing team.
