Role Purpose
The purpose of this role is to improve the management of National Trust for Scotland's (NTS) digital collections assets. This includes reviewing content and cataloguing standards within Digital Asset Management Systems (DAMS), addressing rights management issues, and informing commercial exploitation strategies.
Main Responsibilities
* Review physical collections in the photographic library store against DAMS content to identify collections management and rights issues.
* Develop and implement cataloguing standards for DAMS and analogue photographic libraries to enhance access and use of NTS image library collections.
* Create a framework for managing rights and compliance, providing support and training in rights management for collections colleagues.
* Establish collecting and disposal policy criteria for analogue and digital NTS image libraries within the existing NTS collections management policy framework.
* Implement good digital asset management workflows, including acquisition, ingest, cataloguing, and retrieval, working with the Digital Archivist to ensure digital preservation best practices.
* Advise NTS on opportunities for sharing content through blended models, including Creative Commons licensing and commercial exploitation.
* Improve internal processes for selling assets not available through third-party sites and work closely with Legal, Retail, and Customer & Cause teams on licensing and brand licensing issues.
* Promote rights management and better digital asset management across NTS through close collaboration with colleagues.
* Manage the NTS collections image reproduction service, handling requests from external and internal enquirers, and processing image licensing, sourcing, and resizing tasks.
* Address backlog projects to enhance metadata/cataloguing in Portfolio Catalogues (DAMS) and remove duplicates.
* Develop a business case for commissioning new photography for the NTS image library.
* Support and train NTS colleagues in using Portfolio software.
