The role of a Farm Manager entails overseeing farm operations to ensure the efficient use of resources, timely completion of tasks, and high productivity standards. Key responsibilities include coordinating daily activities, supervising staff, maintaining property and equipment, and ensuring the health and welfare of livestock.
Key Responsibilities:
* Mentor junior staff members in best practices and technical skills.
* Operate farm management tools (e.g., AgriWebb, MEX-App) to support day-to-day operations.
* Analyze nutritionist feed sheets and apply total mixed ration (TMR) calculations.
* Perform routine maintenance on modern machinery, including mixer wagons, side by sides, front-end loader tractors, and JCB loaders.
* Oversee beef cattle breeding programs and implement strategies for optimal production.
* Nurture livestock by providing adequate food and monitoring their health and welfare.
* Develop and execute beef cattle feeding plans and identify potential health and nutrition issues.
* Manage sheep/lamb movements weekly and practice low-stress stock handling techniques.
* Repair and maintain fencing and water systems.
* Establish and cultivate pastures and fodder crops for beef cattle production.
* Ensure farm infrastructure is well-maintained and improved as needed.
* Contribute to financial planning and budgeting.
* Implement biosecurity measures and rotational grazing practices.
* Enforce workplace safety and animal welfare standards.
Requirements:
* Prior experience working with beef cattle and sheep across various production stages.
* Competency in operating and maintaining modern farm machinery.
* A strong understanding of animal welfare and low-stress stock handling principles.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
* Strong problem-solving skills and capacity to work independently.
* Prior experience in infrastructure maintenance and pasture management.
* Current driver's license, preferably with machinery tickets or certifications.
