City Planning and Design develops strategic planning policy, quality urban design creative outcomes and key legislation including the Brisbane City Plan 2014. Monitoring Brisbane's growth under the Brisbane City Plan 2014 and South East Queensland Regional Plan is critical for making the future of the city happen, aligned to the themes of Brisbane Vision 2031.
Our Branch
As part of City Planning and Design, Design Brisbane is Council's centre of excellence for design. We lead the city's design strategy and drive the architecture and urban design agenda. Our work supports planning and policy development for the city centre, neighbourhoods, infrastructure, and public spaces – fostering growth, diversifying the economy, and protecting Brisbane's enviable lifestyle.
The Role
Provide advice in the assessment of development applications to achieve design excellence and comply with relevant legislation and Council policy.
Responsibilities
* Provide architectural and design advice in the assessment on low-medium level development applications, with exposure to complex applications to achieve good design outcomes
* Lead and role model customer focused behaviour by delivering the highest standards of service to our customers
* Interpret and advise on relevant planning legislation and Council policies and procedures
* Liaise and negotiate with customers and key stakeholders to achieve design excellence in all developments
* Prepare guidelines, educational material, submissions, including recommendations and reasonable and relevant conditions to customers and committees
* Use electronic systems to electronically review and assess development applications at all stages
To achieve success in the role, you will:
* Demonstrate your experience in applying best practice architectural/urban design principles when assessing development applications
* Build strong working partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and influence positive design outcomes
* Demonstrate an ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation to Council policy
* Proactively contribute to team direction and a culture of performance excellence
* Hold a Masters degree qualification in Architecture
* Possess a current Class C drivers licence

This role requires a Criminal History Check, Tertiary Qualification in Architecture and a C Class Driver Licence to perform the genuine occupational requirements of the role.
