The opportunity
As a Senior Town Planner, you will play a crucial role in delivering consistent, high-quality planning solutions for a variety of projects in Victoria, inclusive of commercial buildings, educational institutions and hospitals. You will lead a range of town planning projects, preparing, lodging and monitoring the progress of planning applications to achieve positive planning outcomes for the clients.
You'll be a natural when it comes to creative thinking and problem-solving complex issues with a strong eye for design and detail. Your deep interest in keeping yourself abreast of the latest industry trends/planning reforms and technical expertise in statutory planning, coupled with strong consulting skills will help you thrive in this role.
Key responsibilities
* Project Management: You'll take a lead role on a range of town planning projects (depending on the size of the project) working through development applications, rezoning proposals, and community engagement initiatives, ensuring projects timelines are met.
* Report Writing & Application Management: You'll prepare, lodge and monitor the progress of planning applications, ensuring that they are processed in a timely and efficient manner. The work will involve planning applications, planning reports, planning scheme amendments, VCAT reports, and synthesizing planning controls and policies.
* Client & Stakeholder Management: You'll build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and providing expert advice and solutions. You'll manage interactions with the Council independently, engaging with a varied set of stakeholders.
* Team Collaboration: You'll work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure project delivery aligns with client expectations and regulatory requirements.
* Compliance & Quality Assurance: Stay updated with town planning regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure projects adhere to legal and ethical standards. Conduct thorough reviews of planning documents, reports, and submissions to maintain high-quality standards and accuracy.
About you
You will have:
* Bachelor's degree in urban planning, architecture or related field.
* Experience in town planning with knowledge of Victorian planning legislation and policies.
* Strong consulting skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage and influence stakeholders.
* Excellent project management skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
* Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, ensuring clear, concise and effective engagement.
* Strong research and analytical abilities to navigate complex problems with a solution focused mindset.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and be a team player.
* Familiarity with planning software and tools.
