About the service
There is a natural recovery period for individuals who experience psychological distress during and following disasters. Most people are restored to their previous level of psychological and social functioning within weeks or a few months of the event. The prevalence of disaster-associated mental health disorders (typically Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Major Depression) varies from one disaster to another, however research suggests around 33% of those people exposed to significant disaster-related trauma could be expected to need mental health care.
In the event of a disaster, a post disaster mental health recovery team will be deployed in affected regions to provide:
* mental health, alcohol and other drugs services to consumers who, as a direct result of the impact and aftermath of a disaster, are:
o at risk of developing severe mental health disorders
o experiencing mild to moderate mental health problems
* consultation to service providers working with individuals impacted by a disaster across the catchment to support appropriate referral and early intervention
* community education and information regarding mental health wellbeing and resilience following a disaster through attendance at key community activities throughout the relevant HHS
* enhanced referral and linkage to mental health support and treatment services through attendance at key community activities and opportunistic intervention and support.
Requirements:
* Occupational Therapy the successful applicant must hold a tertiary degree.
* Psychology the successful applicant must possess a four-year degree in Psychology.
* Speech Pathology the successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree.
o All positions above are required to have AHPRA registration
* Social Work the successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree.
o AASW accredited Mental Health Social Worker is highly regarded.
* While not mandatory, eligibility for appointment as an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner under the Mental Health Act 2016 would be well regarded.
* This position requires the incumbent to operate a class "C" motor vehicle.
