The role
Overview
Head of Department (Student Services) – temporary part‐time (0.6 FTE) from 13 July 2026 to 11 December 2026, subject to extension. The position is based at Dunwich State School, an island community school serving students from Prep to Year 6.
Responsibilities
- Lead case management, attendance monitoring, student engagement and tiered support for all students.
- Design, implement and maintain consistent school‐wide practices in line with the Student Wellbeing Framework.
- Collaborate with the Wellbeing Team and external agencies to support students, teachers and families.
- Provide strategic, empathetic and trauma‐informed leadership to staff.
- Foster strong relationships across the island community and maintain cultural competence with First Nations students and families.
Qualifications & Expectations
- Committed to delivering strong educational and wellbeing outcomes for students.
- Demonstrated cultural competency and experience working with First Nations communities.
- Knowledge of institutional discrimination and anti‐racism practices.
- Strategic and empathetic approach to relationship building in a diverse context.
- Passion for instructional leadership and staff development.
- Commitment to nurturing partnerships with external agencies that support the school community.
