Cumberland City Council is located within the fast-growing Central City District and is on the doorstep of two of Greater Sydney's new cities, between the Greater Parramatta and Olympic Park (GPOP) area and the new Western Parkland City. **ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY**:
The Strategic Planner will support the development and implementation of the long term land use vision of the Cumberland area. The role will assess a high volume of complex planning proposals, as well as voluntary planning agreements, which reflect the current growth and change occurring within Cumberland.

The successful applicant will require:

- Completed degree in Town Planning or equivalent, or students working towards their degree with completion within 12 months.
- Eligibility for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).
- Understanding of urban planning, including planning proposals and the NSW planning system
- Understanding of the relevant NSW planning legislation, with motivation to learn
- Demonstrated strategic thinking, analytical and research skills
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including demonstrated sound reporting writing skills
- Demonstrated customer service skills
- Demonstrated ability to work positively in a team environment
- Strong time management and organisation skills, including the ability to work independently, and complete tasks within established timeframes

**Position information**: This is a permanent, full-time position, working a 70 hour fortnight, with access to Council's 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO) arrangement.

This role is predominantly located at Council's Auburn office, with occasional travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council's work locations.

**Salary information**: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.
- Grade 11 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,584.79 to $1,822.51 per week per annum, plus 10.5% superannuation
- The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
