The Team
The Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network NSW (Justice Health NSW) Safeguards team provides a Statewide rapid response service for young people (YP) aged 10–18 who are in contact with, or at risk of contact with, the criminal justice system and experiencing mental health crises.

This voluntary, time-limited program (up-to twelve weeks) delivers evidence-based adolescent mental health interventions. It includes comprehensive assessment, diagnostic clarification, therapeutic support, and care navigation tailored to the needs of YP in crisis.

The multidisciplinary team works to understand and address the mental health and wellbeing of YP facing complex challenges, including mental illness and/or neurodevelopmental disorders. Many participants experience significant multi-morbidity and psychosocial vulnerabilities such as homelessness, risk of violence, which impact on their ability to access local health services.

Following initial engagement and assessment, the team provides wraparound support, ensuring a holistic evaluation of health needs. A comprehensive care plan is developed to guide appropriate interventions and health pathways, supporting both the young person and their family (where appropriate) through the crisis period.

The
Role
Join our dynamic team based at Olympic Park and make a real difference in the lives of young people. Working alongside the metro team, you'll provide outreach services within a two-hour radius, delivering responsive, community-based care to adolescents with complex mental health needs who are in contact with, or at risk of contact with, the criminal justice system.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a key role in delivering comprehensive mental health assessments, evidence-based interventions, and coordinated care. Your specialist expertise will shape clinical formulations and guide tailored, recovery-focused support for young people and their families during periods of crisis and complex mental health challenges.

Essential Requirements

* Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in occupational therapy and hold general registration with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia under Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
* Experience in providing assessment and intervention to children and young people with cognitive impairment or neurodevelopmental disorders with communication deficits.
* Recognised consultancy skills and ability to provide education and advice on discipline specific interventions.
* Demonstrated skills in working with children, young people, and families, while collaborating with multiple stakeholders regarding care planning and interventions.
* Valid unrestricted Driver Licence for use in NSW and Australia.
* Valid NSW Employee Working with Children Check.
