The Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT) is inviting applications for the position of. We are a small, vibrant, cohesive team forming the peak representative body that delivers services to, and acts as the voice for, local governing bodies in the Northern Territory. Our members pay an annual subscription for the provision of policy, advocacy, and support services.
We manage around 2000kms of local roads across remote and regional areas of the Northern Territory on behalf of local government, with funding from the Commonwealth and Territory Governments. The role will necessitate close working relationships with Federal and Northern Territory Government departments, Service Providers, Contractors, and key stakeholders including LGANT Members.
Key Responsibilities Include:
1. Manage the LGANT Roads & Infrastructure Program
2. Manage and maintain the local road network identified through the NT Grants Commission on behalf of local government
3. Manage transport and infrastructure projects on behalf of member Councils in the NT on a fee for service
4. Contribute to corporate planning and reporting processes, including the strategic plan, annual budget, annual plan, individual work plan, and LGANT Board
5. Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships with the Board, member councils, elected members, and key government associations
6. Coordinate the roll-out of DriveAbout and Local Buy NT
7. Facilitate and represent LGANT on various transport-related working groups
8. Prepare and Present relevant papers related to the LGANT Road & Infrastructure Program

Responsibility:
9. Responsible to the CEO
10. Cooperate with staff in accomplishing company tasks
Extent of Authority:
11. Monitor expenditure with contracts and the budget
12. Implement strategies as noted in the LGANT strategic plan
13. Act according to approved delegations
Accountability:
14. Accountable to the CEO for the efficient and effective implementation of strategies and meeting performance standards
Success Criteria
15. Prioritise and manage tasks to meet deadlines
16. Secure resources and manage risks by staying abreast of road safety developments
17. Show leadership in coordinating and supporting road infrastructure innovations, e.g., Crumb Rubber project
18. Achieve all Targets & KPI’s from the Annual Plan and Individual Work Plan
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
19. Demonstrated experience in civil/roads infrastructure in regional and remote areas
20. Current NT Drivers Licence
21. High-level people skills, including effective communication, teamwork, and negotiation
22. Experience with Local Government organisations (desirable)
23. Ability to influence others and negotiate outcomes
Knowledge and/or Ability
24. Experience in working in a civil and/or road infrastructure environment
25. Strong understanding of innovative practices involved in road infrastructure and safety
26. Ability to interpret legislation and develop strategies to meet regulatory compliance
27. Understanding of local government operations and governance
