The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dedicated Youth Wellbeing Facilitator to deliver the Bidee Program at Accordwest!
The Bidee Program provides alcohol and/or other drug (AOD) education and support to young people accessing Accordwest homelessness services. Collaborating with the broader Youth Homelessness Services team, the Youth Wellbeing Facilitator will deliver group and individual education sessions to young people with a focus on AOD harm minimisation. We require an experienced, flexible, self-motivated person to work collaboratively with young person and stakeholders to ensure the case management and pre and post support needs of participants are met.
The Bidee Program aims to:
Provide support for young people that have been affected by AOD use in the delivery of a culturally responsive and versatile service
Be accessible for, and meet the needs of, young people from diverse backgrounds
Provide education on AOD use and harm reduction
Be driven by a harm reduction approach and trauma informed practice
Promote personal recovery
Recognise co-occurring AOD use and mental health issues
Focus on a holistic view of AOD education and support activities
Skills and Experiences:
Key Duties
Implementation of the Bidee Program providing AOD education well being and support to young people accessing Accordwest homelessness services.
Undertake assessments to identify needs and required support to inform case management plans
Regular ongoing risk assessments and interventions
Support and promote participation in the program
Increase knowledge and capacity building to develop personal strategies to make informed and safer choices about AOD use
Promote opportunity around goal setting and life choices.
Support the development of preventative crisis resolution strategies
Support to identify and refer to specialist AOD and mental health services to support client needs.
Working collaboratively with broader support services to develop strong relationships within the community.
Actively support Accordwest’s multidisciplinary team in strengthening understanding of evidence based and informed AOD strategies and approaches.
Essential requirements
Certificate IV in a humanities discipline plus a minimum of 1 year’s relevant experience in the field.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with vulnerable young people
Knowledge of intervention strategies for Young People who have been impacted by AOD use.
Experience working in a crisis setting or working with complex and high-risk individuals
Knowledge of mental health co-occurring conditions, trauma informed practices and AOD support needs and issues.
