About the role:The Head of Department is an academic leader within the Pathways School Foundation Studies program and provides strategic, academic, and operational leadership to ensure high-quality teaching, learning, and student outcomes within their department. A teaching department constitutes a distinct learning domain of the Foundation Studies program.
The role encompasses recruitment, staff management, curriculum oversight, compliance, and responsibility for student success, while fostering a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and innovation aligned with the College's vision and values. Although primarily a management position, Heads of Department must also cover classes in their subject area.
There are five positions available, in the following teaching departments;
* English for Academic Purposes (including Academic Skills)
* English (Literature and Drama)
* Society (History of Ideas, Environment, Development and Design, and Media and Communications)
* Maths and Commerce (Mathematics 1, Mathematics 2, Accounting, and Economics)
* Sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Psychology)

Skills & Experience:
We are seeking five enthusiastic and forward-thinking educational leaders to join the Pathways School, where you'll play a vital role in supporting the success of international students transitioning to university. If you are passionate about helping students thrive, enjoy leading and developing teaching teams, and bring expertise in at least one Foundation Studies discipline area, we'd love to hear from you. You will hold a tertiary qualification in education or a related field and have experience in academic administration, curriculum oversight, governance processes, and data-informed decision-making. With strong stakeholder management skills and a collaborative, curious mindset, you will contribute to a supportive, student-centered community that values quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Employment Type and Salary Range: This is a Full-time ongoing position. Band 4 Executive Discretion FTE $135,000 plus 17.5% leave loading 12% superannuation.
