As a Correctional Officer, you play a vital role in maintaining safety, order, and security within a correctional facility while supporting the rehabilitation and well-being of incarcerated individuals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervise and monitor inmate activities to ensure safety and compliance with rules.
2. Develop productive relationships with inmates, staff, management, professionals, and other key stakeholders both internal and external.
3. Participate in the reception, induction, rehabilitation, reintegration, and discharge of inmates in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines.
4. Conduct regular security checks and inspections of cells and facility grounds.
5. Enforce facility rules and regulations.
6. Respond to emergencies, altercations, and incidents calmly and effectively.
7. Escort inmates to various areas within and outside the facility.
8. Complete detailed incident reports and maintain daily logs.
9. Undertake searches of inmates and areas following policies and procedures.
10. Collaborate with staff to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
Inmate Interaction:
* Interact with inmates in a firm, fair, and respectful manner to promote a safe and rehabilitative environment.
* Conduct regular inmate counts, searches, and inspections to prevent disturbances or violations.
* Monitor inmate behavior and respond to incidents or emergencies according to established protocols.
* Support rehabilitation efforts by encouraging positive behavior and compliance with institutional rules.
Qualifications and Skills:
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* The ability to stay calm under pressure and resolve conflicts effectively.
* Physical fitness to meet the demands of the role, including control and restraint training.
* A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain relevant clearances.
