This is a straightforward technical engagement. You will be working on the foundational systems of a major network provider. The work is focused on engineering quality and system reliability, offering a chance to apply high level Unix skills to critical national infrastructure.
This is a project focused role on an initial 6 month contract. You will be responsible for ensuring our carrier grade systems remain performant while systems move toward more automated and modern operational workflows.
Responsibilities
* Provide Tier 3 support for Unix based incidents and outages. Participate in an on call rotation to support mission‐critical telco billing and provisioning systems.
* Use Puppet to manage the internal state of the Solaris and Linux servers (users, patches, security policies).
* Manage and optimise the Oracle VM (OVM) infrastructure, specifically ensuring high performance for Oracle RAC database clusters.
* Transition systems from legacy environments to modern Automated Installer (AI) or help map the path toward Ansible/Terraform. The integration work is done via Ansible.
* Manage enterprise scale backups using Commvault, ensuring data recovery points meet strict telco regulatory standards.
About You
* You have a deep understanding of Unix internals. Whether your experience is in Solaris, AIX, or RHEL, you understand how networking, and storage layers interact in a large scale environment.
* You are comfortable working in environments with strict change control, such as telecommunications, finance, or government.
