The Role
This position is responsible for undertaking activities to meet the Council's Animal Management Service responsibilities and providing efficient customer service by responding to enquiries. This includes attending on site to resolve animal management situations to ensure community safety, wellbeing, and the protection of our environment.
Reporting To: The Team Leader Animal Management
You will assist the community in achieving and implementing corrective actions related to animal confinement, behavior, and care by:
* Attending on-site situations requiring resolution to protect community safety, such as livestock wandering, dog attacks, animal welfare complaints, patrols of dog parks, and securing roaming dogs.
* Participating in an after-hours roster to respond to telephone enquiries and provide emergency animal management services.
* Maintaining records and systems related to the position.
* Managing enforcement cases from start to finish, including follow-up, preparing recommendations for Panel meetings, and updating Council's databases TRIM and Pathway.
* Providing advice and education to external customers on animal management issues, responsible pet ownership, and related laws.
* Assisting the Animal Management team with animal management and related legislation.
About You
To succeed in this role, you should be willing to undertake activities related to animal control duties for the City of Ballarat, and provide effective customer service by responding to animals at large and collecting dogs and cats, applying relevant legislation such as the Domestic Animals Act 1994, Impounding Livestock Act 1994, and Council's Local Laws.
