Overview

Technical 3 - Remuneration Package Range $94,559 - $103,573 (including salary $79,927 - $87,579)

Role: Wildlife Technical Officer – Flora and Fauna, Species Management, Darwin. One full-time ongoing vacancy is available commencing 05/01/2026.

The Department of Lands, Planning and Environment (DLPE) incorporates the Flora and Fauna Division. This division provides scientific assessments, conducts monitoring, and develops management strategies for the Territory\'s unique species and biodiversity. The DLPE aligns its threatened species assessments with a Common Assessment Method (CAM) to ensure consistency with national standards and implements specific research and management programs.

Responsibilities

- Provide technical support and expertise to the implementation of the Management Program for the Saltwater Crocodile in the Northern Territory.
- Assist with planning, liaising with Traditional Owners, landholders and key stakeholders, and conduct crocodile population surveys and field research.
- Assist with regulation and compliance activities, operate and maintain field survey equipment, and collect and record data.

Qualifications and Experience

- Demonstrated experience planning and organising field-based projects and research.
- Experience operating in remote field locations within marine/aquatic environments.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal communities, government agencies and key stakeholders.
- Certifications as a Coxswain from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (advantageous).
- Knowledge of crocodile biology and management (advantageous).
- Experience using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and manual 4WD vehicles (advantageous).

Remuneration and Benefits

- Competitive remuneration package, inclusive of 12% superannuation.

- 17.5% annual leave loading and an additional 3-day paid leave to cover the Christmas – Current Year’s shutdown.
