Role
1. Provide support in and out of the class to assist Koorie students to complete a range of tasks
2. Monitor student’s attendance and liaise with key staff to develop strategies to address disengagement.
3. Actively monitor and report on Koorie student: attendance behaviour engagement wellbeing
4. Utilise IEPs to support engagement of students
5. Provide tiered supports for Koorie students which may include: Check ins with students/families Home visits – as required via school policy Engage students and families with additional supports Attending student support group meetings Attending return to school meeting and supporting a re-engagement plan Link with teachers to support students in class as per outcomes of SSG or IEP Implementation and delivery of targeted programs for students (, small group programs)
6. Build relationships with families and community to support student’s engagement in their educational journey
7. Organise and attend parent/teacher meetings to discuss student’s progress and emerging issues
8. Liaise with student support team to refer students for wellbeing support
9. Work with wellbeing staff to link students and families into a range of external supports and programs
10. Support activities that enhance cultural understanding for all staff.
11. Develop and implement individual workplans based on the Koorie Education Team annual operational calendar and areas of focus (Termly)
12. Support and organise cultural inclusion activities and assist in their development (, NAIDOC Week)
13. Support students to have a platform for student voice for ongoing cultural activities
14. Support proactive family/community engagement activities
15. Work together with external stakeholders to support Koorie students with their engagement and transitions to other educational pathways.
16. Support the transition activities, including family engagement activities
17. Maintain a directory of support services, community contacts
18. Oversee and chair Koorie education meetings (weekly)
19. Meetings Attend Koorie Educator Team meetings (weekly) Attend 1:1 meeting with Assistant Principal wellbeing (fortnightly) Attend transition meetings (as required) External stakeholder meetings

The Koorie Educator will work within operational guidelines for Koorie Educators and provide cultural support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at Chaffey Secondary, contributing to their educational outcomes.
This 48/52 position with required attendance of to This position does not require attendance during the school holidays.
The Koorie Community Engagement Officer will work under line management of the Principal and within the Koorie education team. They will provide support to all Koorie students working closely with the wellbeing, Stars and Clontarf teams.

Location Profile
Chaffey Secondary College is a Year 7 to 10 co-educational College with a 2023 enrolment of 700 students, located in the centre of the city of Mildura. The majority of students transition to Mildura Senior College for Years 11 & 12. Students are drawn mainly from four local government primary schools in Mildura with other enrolments coming from other government and non-government schools in Victoria and southern NSW.
The college's SFO of is indicative of the student cultural diversity which includes Indigenous and students from Tonga, Samoa and Turkey, along with an increasing population of new arrivals from Afghanistan, Iran and other Middle Eastern states.

The College's curriculum and its supports are designed to meet the specific developmental needs of students as they progress from a core Middle Years program to the Later Years program where there an increasing capacity to select electives and pathway programs, including VET, VCAL and VCE Unit 1 & 2 for some subjects. Chaffey Secondary College has a SEAL (Select Entry Accelerated Learning) program and is a member of the SEAL Academy as one of only 40 accredited schools in Victoria and is the exclusive provider of the program in Sunraysia.
The college provides a Flexible Learning Options (FLO) program to support students at risk. This program enables students to undertake an individualised program tailored to their educational, wellbeing and mental-health needs.
The Clontarf Football Academy was introduced in 2010 with mentoring and an engagement activity that supports Koorie boys has been highly successful. A similar program has been established for Koorie girls, Stars Academy. Both programs aim to develop aspirations for opportunities beyond school.
