The School of Nursing and Midwifery Edith Cowan University (ECU) is seeking to appoint an outstanding Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Professor of Nursing or Midwifery to provide strategic leadership in Indigenous health, education and research. This new Professorial appointment is a collaborative role between the School of Nursing & Midwifery and ECU's Indigenous Centre, Kurongkurl Katitjin, reflecting the University's deep commitment to advancing Indigenous excellence across teaching, research, workforce development and community engagement. The School rated number 1 in WA public universities and number 2 in Australia for nursing (Undergraduate Overall Educational Experience, Good Universities Guide 2023) and graduates the most registered nurses in Western Australia, as well as providing a comprehensive range of postgraduate programs of study which prepare students for positions in the nursing and midwifery professions. n The School has two centres of research: Centre for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Services (CNMHSR) and the Centre for Research in Aged Care (CRAC). n Both CNMHSR and CRAC share a common mission to improve the health and wellbeing of communities and society through evidence-based innovations in nursing and midwifery practice. n Our research is world leading, with our work being cited 1 1⁄2 times more than the word average. n The research we do is in collaboration with our well-established health care partnerships and we create opportunities to share, learn, mentor, create, and promote top-quality nursing and midwifery knowledge to improve care worldwide. n About the Opportunity The Professor will: Provide strategic leadership in Indigenous nursing and midwifery education and research Shape and implement a School-wide Indigenous strategy aligned with ECU's Reconciliation Action Plan Strengthen culturally safe curriculum and pedagogy across undergraduate and postgraduate programs Lead and grow Indigenous health research capability and Higher Degree by Research (HDR) supervision Build meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), Elders, Traditional Owners, health services and community leaders Represent ECU at national and international forums on Indigenous health, nursing and midwifery Mentor and build capability among Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff to ensure sustainable Indigenous leadership succession The role includes representation on senior leadership groups within the School and collaboration across the University to embed Indigenous knowledges and leadership across the University.
