Legal Counsel Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our team. As a key member of our legal department, you will provide critical support in all aspects of contract management, risk assessment, and compliance.
Job Responsibilities:
* Draft and advise on agreements for the development and production of programming, including development agreements, format option or license agreements, and option and purchase agreements.
* Advise production executives on rights issues and clearance issues, and assist with the preparation of production protocols and guidance notes for production teams on key areas, such as child performers, privacy, foreign filming locations, insurance foreign work visa requirements, workplace health and safety, programme participants' welfare, and Duty of Care Protocol.
* Assist with management of disputes, claims, and complaints from contributors, broadcasters, viewers, or other third parties.
* Compile programme rights information for distribution purposes and liaise with rights administration and sales administration teams.
* Prepare, draft, and negotiate agreements related to the exploitation of ancillary rights, including integration, product placement, clip licenses, digital, and social media.
* Advise on copyright, trademark, and privacy law matters.
* Conduct due diligence on potential local partners and counterparties to ensure compliance with applicable anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws and trade and economic sanctions.
* Review and update production template agreements and develop understanding of new business initiatives.
* Provide training to participants and production crew on identified legal and business risks.
* Collaborate with other WBD lawyers on various legal and business affairs issues.
* Perform other related business and administrative duties assigned.
Requirements:
* 3+ years post-qualification experience in production or programme rights acquisitions.
* Strong background in copyright law and ownership of rights in content and underlying material.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
* Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and take initiative.
* Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet conflicting deadlines.
* Excellent attention to detail and ability to work well under pressure.
* Excellent drafting skills.
* Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex issues simply.
* Strong decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
* Agile and willing to learn in a fast-paced environment.
* A strong team player who contributes to a dynamic and innovative team.
