The role of General Practitioner Senior Medical Officer (GP SMO) is to deliver primary health care services commensurate to community standards and provide clinical leadership within the Prison and Youth Detention Health Service (PYDHS).

This is a virtual position working for the Queensland Virtual Medical Support service, whereby the role can be delivered one hundred percent from home, and the successful candidate can be located anywhere across the state of Queensland.

About the role

The Prison and Youth Detention Service is part of West Moreton Hospital and Health Service, delivering primary healthcare to nearly half of Queensland's prison and youth detention population. As a member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will provide onsite and virtual services across seven adult correctional facilities and two youth detention centres located in Wacol, Ironbark and Gatton. In addition, PYDHS operates a statewide virtual prison medical support service for the eight other adult correctional facilities across Queensland.

GP SMOs are required to work across all correctional facilities within PYDHS, providing care onsite and virtually, and/or contribute to the statewide virtual health service by delivering virtual medical support to adult correctional centres across Queensland.

Mandatory Requirements:

* Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
* Registration with AHPRA as a specialist (General Practice).
* Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and/or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine.
