**About the Opportunity**
An exciting opportunity is available to work at Liverpool Hospital as an Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO) to complement and enhance the current team. The ALO have a key role in Aboriginal and Torres Strait patients and the ALO's work closely with Social Work and occupational therapist team to ensure the provision of high quality care in alignment with closing the gap.

**What you'll be doing**
The Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO) is responsible for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients/carers/consumers in hospital settings.
The position is required to work as part of the hospital multidisciplinary team in order to:

- ensure the health, psychosocial and cultural needs of Aboriginal patients and their families/carers are taken into account when care is being provided.
- support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families/carers to build their health literacy and capacity to manage their health issues.

The ALO is required to work effectively with staff of the hospital and other agencies including local Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) and related community based services, in order to provide support and assistance to patients/carers/consumers receiving care from the hospital and community health services.

The position is also responsible for supporting effective transfer of care arrangements for Aboriginal patients to ensure they are linked to appropriate community based services.

**Where You'll Be Working**
- Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.
- The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.
- Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.
- Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the UNSW Sydney and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.
- Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.

- Relevant qualification (graduate or non-graduate) related to Aboriginal Health, Health or Community Services and/or relevant experience as an Aboriginal Health Worker
- Demonstrated willingness to learn and commitment to undertaking further education
- Comprehensive understanding of Aboriginal culture and social issues in relation to health matters
- Demonstrated experience in networking, demonstrating a broad knowledge of the services available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills and sound computer skills
- Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
