Are you an experienced livestock worker? Our progressive pig farming operation in Allora Queensland is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Senior Stockperson to join our team. As the Senior Stockperson (Piggery), you will play a crucial role in supervising daily operations, ensuring animal welfare, maintaining compliance, and supporting the growth and development of both staff and livestock. This position reports to the Unit Manager, providing mentorship and guidance.
Responsibilities- Oversee our pig site operations, including personnel management, allocation of physical resources in the pig Shed, feed, adherence to safety protocols, control of consumables and machinery, effluent control, maintenance of documentation, and management of various measurement devices. Ensure ongoing compliance with our Quality Assurance program by maintaining up-to-date documentation on pig herd health. Monitor and verify accurate data collection and recordkeeping to support effective stock and inventory management. Execute management-designated tasks to meet established environmental, quality, and safety objectives of the pig shed. Implement preventative maintenance programs to minimize both scheduled and unscheduled downtime. Euthanise sick or injured pigs humanely, Select appropriate breeding stock and pigs for sale, aligning with our strategic objectives. Manage pig mating via supervised arrangements or through artificial insemination, supervise the birthing process, including the ability to physically conduct unsupervised internal assessments of females during parturition to minimise incidence of still births Oversee and participate in daily livestock inspections, verifying animals receive adequate feed, water, and environmental conditions and effluent and noise controls are maintained. Assess, identify, treat, and document compromised animals individually, in accordance with our herd plan and the pork industry code.
As a preferred candidate, you will have: an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Certificate III in Agriculture (Pig Production), or equivalent qualifications as assessed by a registered training organisation and have at least 3 years of recent and relevant work experience in a medium-to-large size commercial piggery, or AQF certificate III in Agriculture (Pig Production) and at least 18 months relevant work experience in Australia, or 5 years of recent and relevant work experience. We may also in some cases, consider applicants with three years' experience full-time (regardless of whether Australian or offshore work experience)
