The role
Arclight is a program that helps young people ages 12-15 years old to provide holistic, and high-quality support and care to young people who are experiencing significant challenges in the community. The Youth Officer will work alongside the young persons' families, stakeholders, and the community to provide mentoring, role modelling, and teaching life skills.
As a Youth Officer you will be responsible for supporting young people who are at-risk of disengagement from education and entering the justice system by providing tailored education, socialisation, connection, knowledge, and development skills.
Through a holistic, wraparound service, the goal is to raise school attendance, reduce suspensions, divert from crime and antisocial behaviour and increase opportunities for sustained success in life.
The responsibilities
* Under the guidance of the Coordinator – The Arclight Initiative, the Youth Officer – Arclight assists the delivery of The Arclight Initiative, its activities, and other places as required, through youth engagement including transport to school, 1:1 support in class, life skills workshops, community work support, volunteering, work experience and reward excursions
* Intensive mentoring and role modelling for young people deemed at-risk of disengagement from education and entering the justice system
* Planning, designing and delivery of The Arclight Initiative schedule
* Recording and maintaining statistics on participants and program activities
* Assisting in developing and executing participant action plans
* Support and foster young people's active involvement in the planning and implementation of programs and activities
* Assistance in monitoring and evaluation
* Perform other reasonable duties as requested, in accordance with skills, knowledge and experience.
* Participate in internal and external training, skills and professional development to share best practice models and tools across Outcare.
* Develop personal networks and negotiate with services to identify the most pertinent service for a client's particular issue.
What you'll need
* Tertiary qualification in youth work or similar, or significant experience in a related field.
* Prior experience working with vulnerable and/or at-risk young people.
* Prior experience in youth program planning, development and delivery, youth centre drop-in supervision, or a similar role.
* Well-developed working knowledge of social issues that impact young people, as well as both Indigenous and CaLD culture and related impacts for young people in urban settings.
* Sound analytical, report writing, data collection and computer literacy skills.
* Well-developed interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

* Must hold Australian Citizenship or be a permanent resident of Australia.
