Beenleigh Steel Fabrications is a long-established structural steel fabricator supporting major projects across South-East Queensland and beyond. We are looking for a hands-on IT Support Specialist / Systems Administrator to be the main point of call for all IT systems and users, and to drive the implementation of SMB1001 cyber security controls across the business.
This role combines day-to-day IT support with ownership of our infrastructure, cloud services and cyber security baseline. You will play a key role in ensuring our systems are reliable, secure and support our production environment.
About the Role
You will be the central IT contact for Beenleigh Steel Fabrications, responsible for:
* Providing end‐to‐end IT support for office, workshop and site-based staff
* Administering and improving our Windows, Microsoft 365, SQL Server and Ubiquiti environment
* Leading the implementation and ongoing maintenance of SMB1001 cyber security controls
* Working with management and external vendors to keep our systems secure, stable and aligned with business needs
This is a sole-charge style role suited to someone who is confident taking ownership, comfortable in an industrial environment and able to balance both user support and project work.

Networking & Connectivity
* Ubiquiti Dream Machines, switches and access points
* Network configuration, monitoring and fault diagnosis
* VPN setup and management for remote and on-site connectivity
Backups & Cyber Security
* Cloud and/or hybrid backup solutions – configuration, scheduling, monitoring and regular restore tests
* Endpoint protection, patch management and hardening
* Implementation of SMB1001 cyber security controls:
* Multi-factor authentication (MFA) and secure access
* Regular backups and verified restore procedures
* Device and software updates
* Account and access management
* Incident response basics and user awareness
* Documentation of policies and technical controls
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the primary IT support contact for all staff, resolving L1/L2 issues across hardware, software, network and applications
* Manage the user lifecycle (onboarding, offboarding, access changes) across AD, Microsoft 365 and line-of-business systems
* Administer and maintain:
* Active Directory, group policies and Windows devices
* Microsoft 365 (licensing, mail flow, security settings, Teams/SharePoint)
* Ubiquiti network infrastructure, Wi-Fi and VPNs
* SQL Server instance underpinning our fabrication management system
* Lead the implementation of SMB1001:
* Translate SMB1001 requirements into practical technical and procedural controls
* Implement and maintain MFA, access reviews, patching schedules, security baselines and backup strategies
* Assist in developing and documenting cyber security policies and procedures
* Help run staff awareness and training at a practical level
* Maintain and test backup and disaster recovery processes
* Monitor system health, capacity and performance and proactively address issues
* Maintain IT asset registers, documentation, network diagrams and standard operating procedures
* Work closely with management and external providers on upgrades, improvements and security initiatives
* Support IT-related needs for workshop and site operations, including production devices and connectivity on the floor
About You
You're a practical, hands-on IT professional who enjoys being "the IT person" for a business, working directly with end users and owning the environment from desktop to cloud to network.
Essential Skills & Experience
* 3+ years in an IT Support, Systems Administrator or similar role
* Solid Windows desktop support experience
* Hands-on Active Directory experience (users, groups, GPOs, permissions)
* Strong Microsoft 365 administration skills, ideally including:
* Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive/SharePoint
* Security basics (MFA, mail filtering, conditional access, data protection)
* Experience with networking:
* Switches, routers, Wi-Fi, basic firewall rules, VPNs
* Ubiquiti experience highly regarded (Dream Machine, switches, APs)
* Basic to intermediate Microsoft SQL Server experience:
* Backups, restores, connectivity and performance basics
* Experience with backups, antivirus/endpoint protection, patching and general cyber security principles
* Ability to take ownership of projects and drive improvements with minimal supervision
* Clear communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical staff
Desirable
* Experience in manufacturing, construction, engineering or industrial environments
* Exposure to SMB1001 or other cyber security frameworks (e.g. Essential Eight, ISO-style controls)
* Scripting/automation (e.g. PowerShell) to streamline common tasks
* Experience documenting IT processes and building knowledge bases

* Practical, calm and methodical problem-solver
* Able to work in a workshop/industrial environment, occasionally heading onto the floor or sites (PPE provided)
* Strong sense of responsibility for uptime, security and data integrity
