Primary objective
Provide senior strategic leadership for the development and implementation of the NT Visitor Economy Strategy 2032 -VES32 delivering
evidence-based advice and coordinated action to support sustainable visitor-economy growth. The role acts as a senior specialist and
trusted adviser, leading strategic initiatives, shaping policy, supporting governance, and strengthening alignment across the Department
of Tourism and Hospitality government and industry to advance whole-of-government economic, regional and liveability outcomes.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead the coordinated implementation of VES2032, including contributing to governance structures, delivery cadence and performance
monitoring. Work closely with the Senior Director, Strategy and Insights to ensure strategic priorities are progressed, risks are managed
and outcomes are tracked.
1. Lead the development of high-quality policy advice, position papers and strategic responses on visitor-economy issues. Apply an
evidence-based approach drawing on research, data and market intelligence to inform recommendations and support timely, aligned
decision-making.
1. Build and maintain effective working relationships with senior stakeholders across government, industry, peak bodies and community
organisations. Influence alignment of priorities and support collaborative delivery of strategy outcomes.
1. Promote and embed an evidence-based approach across the division by supporting business units to apply research, insights and
evaluation in planning, prioritisation and delivery activities.
1. Represent the Department of Tourism and Hospitality on interagency and cross-sector working groups and forums, contributing
specialist expertise to policy development and coordinated initiatives aligned with NT Government priorities.
1. Provide senior-level guidance, mentoring and subject-matter expertise within the Strategy and Insights function, contributing to
capability uplift and continuous improvement.
Selection criteria
Desirable
1. Strong demonstrated understanding of the tourism and visitor-economy sector, including local, national and international trends and
their relevance to NT Government policy and priorities.
2. Highly developed strategic, conceptual and analytical skills, with the ability to manage complex projects, synthesise multiple evidence
sources and develop clear, practical recommendations.
2. Proven ability to consult with, influence and collaborate effectively with senior stakeholders across government and non-government
sectors, including engaging with people from diverse cultures and perspectives.
3. Demonstrated experience producing concise, high-quality briefs, reports and policy papers that clearly communicate complex issues
to senior executives and diverse audiences.
4. Sound understanding of public-sector processes, governance and decision-making, including the importance of political sensitivity,
confidentiality and risk awareness.
5. High levels of initiative, professionalism and commercial awareness, with a proven ability to deliver outcomes in complex, fast-paced
environments.
Essential
1. Qualification or Certificate in a relevant discipline, including tourism/ business/ science or similar.
2. Demonstrated experience in tourism related project management.
