About the team
SafeWork NSW Operations Regional directorate has a strategic approach to supporting safe, healthy, and productive workplaces in Regional NSW. This approach focuses on protecting NSW workers through strategic stakeholder engagement, evidence-based and risk-focused harm prevention initiatives, and proportionate and targeted regulatory responses to incidents and service requests. By engaging with stakeholders, implementing data-driven initiatives and responding effectively to incidents, SafeWork NSW aims to reduce workplace harm and incidents in Regional NSW, promoting a strong culture of work health and safety in NSW workplaces.
This role is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference by improving workplace health, safety and wellbeing across NSW. You will work with industry, workers and the community to reduce harm, ensure compliance with legislation, and influence safer workplace practices. As an Assistant State Inspector, you will also mentor and support colleagues, helping build capability across the business while contributing to innovative solutions that protect the NSW community and build the capability of businesses to identify and control work health and safety risks to workers.
Your responsibilities will include
* Conducting inspections and investigations to improve workplace safety outcomes
* Delivering education and engagement programs for workers and employers
* Responding to serious workplace incidents as part of the emergency response service
* Providing practical advice and guidance to industry and stakeholders
* Participating in the planning and development of targeted projects to reduce harm in workplaces and support SafeWork NSW Regulatory Priorities.

* Apply your experience in WHS, compliance and enforcement to deliver improved safety outcomes

You will:
* Work a 38-hour working week, including some weekends and participate in the After-Hours Emergency Response Service
* Receive an attractive salary package along with the required tools of the trade, including a vehicle with access to private use (currently at a cost of approximately $210 per fortnight)
* Be able to access flexible working conditions within operational requirements
Essential requirements
* Ability to travel, work remotely and out of usual business hours
* Hold a NSW 'C' class drivers' licence with a satisfactory safe driving record and a requirement to maintain the safe driving record throughout employment
* Satisfactory criminal record check
* Satisfactory medical assessment capacity regarding physical and psychological impacts of the inherent duties of the role
* Undertake the 12-month New Inspector Training Program (NITP). This intensive program is delivered by our Registered Training Organisation and combines mandatory components of induction, class training, online learning, completion of set assessments and tasks, and extensive on-the-job field training with regular travel throughout NSW.
