**Job Summary (Purpose)**: 
The Laboratory Technician is primarily responsible for completing vital laboratory functions relating to raw materials and product samples including physical and chemical testing, and maintaining laboratory equipment and systems.
A second key function of this position is to support the routine work of development chemists in preparation, manufacture and stability of lab, pilot and plant-made batches.
The Laboratory Technician must maintain accurate, up-to-date and concise electronic laboratory notebooks and records, use laboratory safety equipment as required and understand precautions in handling and storage of materials and appropriate disposal of chemical and other wastes according to local and corporate environmental regulations.
They must also perform their work and operate the laboratory in accordance with C-P quality standards, and communicate clearly, concisely and effectively through written and oral means.
This position interfaces with the corporate technology team, global and local quality, EHS, supply chain functions, outside suppliers and site facilities management. Developing connections with laboratory staff at other GTCs will be beneficial
**Main Responsibilities**: 
**Analytical Support** 
- Receive, dispatch, document, store and dispose of raw materials and product samples 
- Perform physical and chemical testing of raw materials and finished products in accordance with standard test procedures 
- Assist Development Chemist project work for new and change products with preparation, manufacture and stability of lab, pilot and plant-made batches for home care products as needed 
- Share ideas, knowledge and best practices to improve processes, solve problems, and strive for continuous improvement 
- Advocate and drive process standardisation and simplification 
- Assist with raw material specification and qualification work as required
**Equipment Management** 
- Maintain laboratory quality assurance systems and equipment to assure validity of data 
- Perform or assist vendors in the installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ) and performance qualification (PQ) of laboratory instruments and equipment 
- Troubleshoot basic instrument problems 
- Collect water and environmental samples for microbiological evaluation
**Regulation, EOHS and Quality** 
- Ensure all laboratory activities comply with regulatory, legal, ethical, quality, safety and environmental standards 
- Understand and communicate the business consequences of not conforming to standards 
- Work to standardise best practices 
- Demonstrate safe behaviour and awareness, sound environmental practices and commitment to quality 
- Abide by facility safety and GMP requirements and set the example 
- Understand and implement the technical requirements of quality and microbiology in research facilities 
- Take corrective actions in a timely manner to mitigate potential EHS or quality incidents 
- Be proactive in self-assessing against corporate EHS and quality standards and local regulations 
- Implement quality and EOHS plans & strategy in compliance with Global Quality, Microbiology, Product Safety and EOHS requirements and local regulations. 
- Participate in preparation and conduct of safety, quality and housekeeping audits
**People Management & Development** 
- Ensure quality execution of and follow up on all HR processes: performance management and development, training, code of conduct 
- Communicate effectively with leadership and colleagues to transfer information, request resources and ask for decisions 
- Work collaboratively with the GTC team, internal partners and external suppliers
**Required (Education, Knowledge required, Language skills, etc)** 
- A Science or Engineering degree including chemistry and laboratory skills components. 
- Previous experience working in or managing a chemistry or quality laboratory workplace, preferably related to FMCG industry 
- English language skills - strong ability to write and speak.
