Overview

School of Economics based at UQ's Faculty of Business, Economics and Law (BEL). Up to 2 full-time (100%), permanent positions available. Position can be offered at Academic Level B or C. Based at our St Lucia Campus.

About This Opportunity: Play a key role in educating future generations and creating an exceptional student experience as a Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C). We have two positions available to contribute to the development of new programs and course material for UQ's School of Economics, and to grow your profile in research, teaching and service and engagement.

As a teaching and research academic at Level B or C, you will be part of a vibrant, internationally recognised community. You will be committed to teaching excellence and aspire to achieve international recognition in your field of research. This is an opportunity to build a global research profile and contribute to innovative teaching in one of Australia's leading economics schools.

For US applicants: Australian universities use British terminology, so a Lecturer is equivalent to an Assistant Professor in the US, while a Senior Lecturer is a more advanced role.


Responsibilities and expectations

Key responsibilities at Academic Level B (Lecturer) include the following:

1. Teaching: Contribute to development of new programs and course material in the area of focus, consult with program advisors and stakeholders to ensure courses are engaging, relevant and contemporary.
2. Teach across settings and contribute towards educational practice and innovative curriculum design, including online learning and alternative teaching methods.
3. Coordinate courses, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials, and undertake assessment and marking for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
4. Maintain and improve course quality as measured by evaluation instruments to meet industry and educational standards.
5. Provide high quality service to students, including academic counselling and advice.
6. Understand and apply University Rules relevant to teaching and learning practice.
7. Research: Develop a record of publications in world leading or internationally excellent journals in Economics or Econometrics, with a preference in Applied Economics; collaborate with colleagues and postgraduates on joint research projects and applications for funding; contribute to external funding applications and manage research funding; present at key domestic and international conferences and other universities.
8. Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to supervision of Masters, Honours and Higher Degree by Research students; participate in recruitment and onboarding of staff; resolve conflicts in accordance with University policy.
* Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships with colleagues, industry, government, professional bodies and wider community; demonstrate leadership through mentoring and collaboration; manage internal service roles and participate in committees; perform administrative functions and support other academic positions; demonstrate UQ values.

Academic Level C (Senior Lecturer) adds:

* Teaching: Build and maintain internal and external education collaborations; lead programs, disciplines, plans, courses and student cohorts.
* Research: Contribute to partnerships with research end users or external collaborations; build teams and participate in discipline service including editorial boards.
* Supervision and Researcher Development: Establish a track record in supervision outcomes; demonstrate responsible conduct of research; develop supervisee capabilities and skills; lead engagement opportunities for supervisees.
* Citizenship and Service: Consolidate an established record in internal and external service and provide leadership contributions.

Note: The successful candidate may be required to complete pre-employment checks (right to work, criminal check, education check, etc.).


Work Rights and Location

About You: Level B (Lecturer)

Applicants should possess a PhD in Economics or a directly relevant field by commencement. You should demonstrate:

* A growing profile in teaching and research; ongoing publications in world leading or internationally excellent journals; a pipeline of research-in-progress; ability to supervise Honours and Research Higher Degree students; ability to seek external funding; contribution to service.


About You: Level C (Senior Lecturer)

Applicants should possess a PhD in Economics or a directly relevant field by commencement. You should demonstrate:

* An established profile in teaching and research; track record in publications; strong record of external funding; ability to coordinate courses and innovate; supervision track record; engagement in internal and external service.
