Overview
Join Sugar Australia as a Packing Operator at our Mackay Port Packing Facility and play a key role in delivering high quality packaged sugar products to customers across the country. This permanent, full-time position reports to the Site/Production Manager and is ideal for a hands-on operator with a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude and a commitment to safety, quality and teamwork.
What you'll be doing
As a Packing Operator, you'll be at the heart of our packaging operations, working within a close-knit team to ensure efficient machinery operation, smooth warehouse processes, and clean, safe working conditions. You'll contribute to the delivery of high-quality sugar products while supporting maintenance and ship loading activities.
* Operating packaging and bagging machinery to meet production targets.
* Performing warehouse and dispatch tasks including palletising and inventory handling.
* Maintaining plant cleanliness and dust control to uphold hygiene standards.
* Carrying out ship loading duties including connection, disconnection, and Citect control loading.
* Completing shift logs, reports, and pack sheets accurately.
* Liaising with maintenance teams for troubleshooting and basic repairs.
* Identifying opportunities for process efficiency and cost savings.
* Supporting waste minimisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
You'll also benefit from a balanced lifestyle with a 6-week rotating 12-hour roster, including a combination of day and night shifts Monday to Thursday and day shifts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (only 2 weekend shifts every 6 weeks).
What you'll bring to the role
We're looking for a reliable, safety conscious operator with a proactive attitude and a willingness to learn. You'll be a team player who takes pride in your work and contributes to a positive and productive environment.
* A High School Certificate with basic numerical and verbal skills.
* A current Forklift license.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
* Flexibility to work rotating shifts including weekends.
* Previous experience in food processing or industrial environments (desirable).
* Physical fitness to perform manual handling and lifting tasks (up to 25kg).
* Strong communication and problem solving skills.
* Basic computer literacy and machinery knowledge.
