What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality obstetric and gynaecological care to patients in a complex clinical environment. Senior Resident Medical Officers will work under an appropriate level of supervision according to their level of competence to evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to female patients of all ages presenting in any condition or stage of pregnancy or the puerperium; and female patients presenting with illnesses, injuries and disorders of the gynaecological or genitourinary system.
The Senior Resident Medical Officer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology will work in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings including inpatient ward care, birthing unit, theatres and outpatients (e.g. antenatal, postnatal and gynaecology) clinics.
Where you'll be working
Griffith Base Hospital is a 114 bed level 4 regional referral facility hospital providing a range of acute specialist services (resident & visiting) including Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatric Medicine, Oncology, Haematology, Obstetrics, Intensive Care, Respiratory Medicine, Endocrinology, Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine Renal Dialysis and Rheumatology. There are a range of diagnostic services including Pathology, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, and General X-Ray. Other Allied Health Services include Physiotherapy, Dietetics, Pharmacy and Aboriginal Health.
In June 2025, the Griffith Base Hospital, undergoing a $250 million redevelopment, reached an exciting milestone as it opened it's doors on the new three-storey Clinical Services Building which seeks to house all major health services under one roof. The project includes a new emergency department, two operating theatres, expanded medical imaging, maternity and paediatric services and improved aged care and rehabilitation beds.

* MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia. Unconditional general registration or eligible for unconditional registration with AHPRA
* Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, including providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients
* Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise
* Demonstrated time management and problem solving skills
* Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills
* Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
* Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self education
* Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training
