We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer to join our IT & Digital Services (ITDS) team in a permanent position. Reporting to the ITDS Manager, Infrastructure & Operations, this role is responsible for the implementation, management, and ongoing maintenance of infrastructure and network solutions that support UTS College's projects and operational objectives.
About the Role
Responsibilities include:
- Implement and support enterprise networking technologies including Switching, Routing, VLANs, and wireless infrastructure.
- Implement and support load balancing technologies including Citrix NetScaler, F5 BIG-IP and NGINX.
- Manage on-prem infrastructure, encompassing VMWare, hosts, SANs and security/reliability updates.
- Administer Microsoft Azure, O365 and Exchange environments.
- Maintain Windows Servers, including AD, DHCP, DNS, IIS, Group Policy, and Security Permissions.
- Plan and execute backup and disaster recovery strategies, leveraging Veeam solutions.
- Provide low/medium level SQL support.
- Utilize AD, Entra and OKTA Identity Access Management (IAM) platforms.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to troubleshoot issues and provide highly technical support.
- Enhance system monitoring capabilities and maintain comprehensive documentation.
- Contribute to IT projects as required, including Linux support and automation initiatives.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies to enhance infrastructure architecture.
About You
You will have a minimum of 5 years of previous experience in a similar technical role with a broad range of expertise, including:
- Network configuration (VLANs, Stacking, Spanning-Tree, Aggregation).
- Load balancing technologies (Citrix NetScaler, F5 BIG-IP, NGINX).
- VMWare (ESXi 8, VCenter, Distributed Switch).
- Microsoft Windows Server operating systems (AD, DHCP, DNS, IIS, Group Policy and Security Permissions).
- Microsoft Azure, Exchange (hybrid) and O365 administration and support.
- PowerShell scripting knowledge.
- Identity access management technologies (preferably Okta).
- Backup technologies (preferably Veeam).
- Monitoring and alerting technologies (preferably PRTG).
- Experience in SQL server administration will be very highly regarded.
- Ability to work proactively and autonomously, while prioritising when applicable.
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Certifications
The following certifications would put you at anadvantage:
- CCNA, RCNA or CompTIA Network+ (highly regarded).
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate/Expert (MCSA/E).
- ITIL Foundation v3 (or higher).
- Azure or Office 365.
- VMWare.
