As the Treasurer, you serve as a full Board Director and are expected to meet the general requirements set out by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). Your specific duties are categorised as follows:
1. Financial Governance and Reporting
* Guide the Board on financial governance.
* Prepare and present timely annual/monthly budgets, accounts, financial statements, and financial reports.
* Ensure all records are auditable, that audits are conducted, and that recommendations are implemented.
* Advise on the financial implications of Tender Funerals Geelongs strategic and operational plans and decisions.
* Ensure accounts meet the conditions of contractual agreements with external agencies like funders and statutory bodies.
2. Financial Management & Compliance
* Champion the implementation of financial systems and control procedures.
* Ensure the financial records of Tender Funerals Geelong are kept according to the relevant legislation, such as the Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012.
* Assist Board members in understanding their financial obligations and best practices.
* Work with program and functional leads as they manage their financial plans, reporting, and outcomes.
3. Strategic and Community Support
* Contribute to strategic, operational, and financial decision‑making.
* Represent Tender Funerals Geelong to the broader community, helping to build reputation and trust.
* Provide oversight and guidance for the organisations operations once established, ensuring appropriate frameworks are in place to monitor, mitigate, and manage financial risks.
* Take on a portfolio role or participate in sub‑committees/working groups as required.
4. Qualifications, Skills & Experience
* Experience in finance/accounting and a working knowledge of related legislation is required.
* Experience in the not‑for‑profit (NFP) sector is highly desirable.
* A CA/CPA or similar qualification is highly desirable.
* Previous board experience is highly desirable.
* AICD certification is desirable.
* Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
* A self‑motivated, organised, and outcomes‑focused approach.
* The ability and willingness to challenge and probe.
* The ability to work collaboratively as a team player.
