The Role
We're looking for a proactive, product-focused Java Backend Engineer who enjoys ownership, variety, and delivering meaningful features.
You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to design, build, and optimise backend systems that deliver value to both restaurants and diners.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and build scalable backend solutions using Java
* Develop and maintain serverless APIs
* Build and consume REST and GraphQL APIs
* Improve system performance, reliability, and scalability
* Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues
* Collaborate with product, frontend, and engineering teams
* Implement new features end-to-end
What You'll Bring
* Strong proficiency in Java backend development
* Experience building serverless APIs
* Solid understanding of software development principles
* Experience with REST and GraphQL APIs
* Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (MySQL, Postgres, etc.)
* Performance tuning and debugging experience
* Comfortable working with Git
* Experience writing automated tests and testable code
* Familiarity with modern architectures and design patterns
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Proactive, hands-on mindset
Nice to Have
* Experience with AWS (S3, AppSync, API Gateway, Lambda, etc.)
* Experience building or working with CI/CD pipelines
* Interest in food, restaurants, and dining
Qualifications
* Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
* 3–5 years' post-degree commercial experience as a Java Developer
* Full working rights in Australia
