Overview
The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services, including scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. It encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), and supports a large volunteer membership across the state. The QFD is committed to reframing its relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations through the Reframing the Relationship Plan.
Purpose of the role
Human Resource Services provides professional advice and support across the employee lifecycle, including entitlements, HR systems, establishment management, and local recruitment and selection. The team contributes to HR initiatives, policies and resources to ensure compliance and best practice aligned with whole-of-government, departmental and business unit needs. The role works with staff, managers and decision makers to progress day-to-day HR entitlements and activities, liaises with Queensland Shared Services for payroll, and builds HR capability across the workforce through system support and process improvement.

Your key accountabilities
Responsibilities
- Provide timely and quality advice and support to employee and manager enquiries, ensuring effective application of HR policy, procedures and resources.
- Ensure effective and compliant use of HR systems and program governance through user training, documentation validation, establishment management, and records management.
- Maintain knowledge of HR practices, systems and resources to ensure compliance with current legislation, awards and departmental policies, procedures and standards.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to understand business needs and deliver activities in a timely and efficient manner.
- Contribute to HR capability through design and implementation of procedures, guidelines and resources, including continuous improvement recommendations.
- Assist with the preparation of documentation and reports to support governance, compliance and evidence-based decision making.
- Participate in projects and working groups to deliver outcomes within agreed timeframes and meet business and client needs.
