Deputy Senior Registrar


Department of Justice Queensland

Location: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Pay Range: $119, / yr – $127, / yr (base pay range)

Applications remain open for 12 months.


Responsibilities

Lead a team responsible for preparation of matters for the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) and manage a caseload of complex files.

Provide expert advice and guidance to ensure prescribed deadlines and benchmarks are achieved within the team, delivering high‑quality service to clients and the tribunal.

Work across the Civil, Administrative and Disciplinary (CAD) Division or the Human Rights Division (HuRD).

Manage, mentor and coach the team in the delivery of a professional service to QCAT judicial officers and tribunal decision‑makers, providing expert technical and file management advice, and fostering a supportive work environment.

Provide guidance on technical systems, information database content and protocols for dealing with parties to a proceeding.

Handle highly complex files from initiating proceedings to final hearing.

Monitor and improve workflow, allocating files to the team and ensuring accurate, timely processing in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures.

Research and prepare briefing notes, ministerial correspondence (including investigating and actioning complaints), submissions, memoranda and other administrative requirements as directed.

Provide information to parties or the public about the tribunal's role, processes, procedures or legislative provisions.

Maintain accurate records to provide reporting and analysis on statistical data and trends.

Represent QCAT at forums, workshops and meetings as required.

Support QCAT stakeholders to facilitate shared interests, exchange knowledge and ideas on operational and strategic issues, aiming to enhance core capabilities in frontline service provision.

Foster a work environment focused on continuous improvement through identifying and developing business, process and technological improvements.

Perform duties in accordance with the position's Human Resources Delegation of Authority.

Contribute to the delivery of QCAT's ongoing services and success by undertaking assignments and projects aligned with current capabilities or providing development opportunities.
