We are looking for a Senior Civil Designer to join the Greenfield team to primarily provide 12d road design modelling and AutoCAD drafting services for a range of road, drainage and civil projects throughout the project lifecycle.
What the job involves
Delivery of road, drainage and civil earthworks design modelling using 12d software to a high standard, independently and with minimal input from civil engineering.
Demonstration of knowledge of fundamental road design technical concepts and details, including:
- road and intersection geometry
- drainage (intermediate)
- materials
- surfacing
- Austroads and MRWA standards
- Knowledge and application of waterways assessment and design inc. catchment analysis, floodway assessment and design, culvert design (desirable)
Prepares, contributes to, and/or reviews road design-related documentation including design reports, design drawings, client memos, job scopes, client proposals and other documentation.
Working collaboratively as the job requires with the Principal Civil Engineer and other Civil and Project Engineers.
Completion of all road design work within Greenfield's established Integrated Management System (IMS).
AutoCAD Drafting
Delivery of AutoCAD drafting for road and drainage projects with minimal guidance.
Drafting of engineering drawings to a high standard, including plan profile drawings, cross-sections, typical sections and other drawings and schedules as required.
The review of and feedback on AutoCAD drafting by Civil and Project Engineers.
Consulting
Using a strong background in road design to provide technical advice and consulting services to clients in collaboration with the Principal Civil Engineer.
Identifies root causes of road design problems and develops solutions with colleagues to address root causes.
Project Management
Contributes to road design jobs, leveraging a thorough technical knowledge and solid professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
Effectively manage multiple design jobs at various stages at any one time.
Works with cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams to deliver road design jobs and their outputs.
Using a range of assessment techniques and standard project management practices to monitor the success of design jobs.
Considers and assesses the various risks and the potential mitigations involved at each stage of design jobs.
Leadership and Training
Being the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the business in the use of 12d and AutoCAD for road design.
Provides mentoring, advice and on-the-job training to select colleagues on the use of 12d and AutoCAD for road design.
Identifies and acts on opportunities to provide coaching and mentoring on road design more broadly.
Builds a cohesive team (both internal and external) with clarity around road design job goals and accountabilities.
Stakeholder Engagement
Lead and manage stakeholder engagement on specific road design jobs.
Prepare basic design job reports/updates for key stakeholders.
Communicate technical design information to non-technical stakeholders and colleagues clearly in both verbal and written formats.
What qualifications and experience are required
Competent in the use of 12d software and AutoCAD (both to at least an intermediate level), with the ability to progress work independently/with minimal input.
Minimum five years' experience as a Civil Designer in a related industry.
Demonstrated experience in roads and drainage design projects.
Strong attention to detail and communication skills – both written and verbal.
Experience working for a consultancy.
Experience in developing road design elements for input into road design models using typical standards (Austroads and/or Main Roads).
Experience in contributing to the development of design documentation, including design reports and memos.
An appreciation for working from home and communicating across multiple channels, e.g. phone, email, MS Teams.
Related Diploma or higher-level qualification.
Other Requirements
Ability to work irregular hours and travel to and stay at other Greenfield offices or site-based locations occasionally.
Current and valid Australian Drivers License - C class.
Satisfactory completion of a medical examination.
Must hold permanent residency / Australian Citizenship.
