About this role As the
Railway Systems Engineering Lead, you will provide strategic technical leadership and systems engineering expertise for complex railway infrastructure projects, with a focus on ETCS. You will guide the development of safety cases, hazard analyses, and assurance frameworks, ensuring compliance with Queensland Rail’s governance standards and Rail Transport Operator (RTO) requirements. This is a pivotal role interfacing with internal and external stakeholders to deliver assets that meet stringent safety, reliability, and operational standards.
Responsibilities
Lead systems engineering governance and apply best‑practice methodologies to deliver safe, reliable, and fit‑for‑purpose solutions.
Drive assurance activities to guarantee a sustainable and efficient network.
Develop and manage systems aligned with Queensland Rail’s Configuration Change Management and Governance Framework.
Prepare Railway Integrity Assurance Plans and Reports and oversee Safety and Environment Management Systems (SEMS).
Provide technical oversight for ETCS‑related system design, integration, and validation throughout the project lifecycle.
Maintain a holistic view of technology and operational requirements to optimise business outcomes.
Implement technical management activities including risk management and configuration control to ensure system integrity.
What you can bring to the role
Proven leadership skills with the ability to set strategic direction and work flexibly within a collaborative team environment.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including experience managing procurement of technical services and stakeholder engagement.
Extensive knowledge of metro‑style railway systems, including signalling, telecommunications, tunnel ventilation systems, and their interfaces.
Ability to integrate complex technical challenges into business‑focused solutions.
Strong understanding of governance, risk, and compliance frameworks for railway construction, maintenance, and operations.
Substantial knowledge of railway operations and business imperatives.
