About the Role
As Media Lead, you will partner across the organisation nationally to drive proactive media engagement aligned with Life Without Barriers' strategy, purpose, and values.
You will manage media inquiries, advise on government relations, design and execute media campaigns, and provide reporting and monitoring.
Your expertise in media engagement, government relations, and navigating political dynamics will be crucial.
You will collaborate closely with our Chief Engagement and Policy Officer and teams across the organisation to implement media strategies that support our mission.
This position can be based in Newcastle, Sydney, or Melbourne, with occasional travel and some in-office work with flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
Lead media engagement, ensuring responses align with LWBs values.
Provide media training and guidance to spokespeople.
Design and implement media campaigns, especially related to social policy and public affairs.
Build and maintain relationships with journalists, media outlets, and government departments.
Oversee media monitoring and social media tracking to identify issues and opportunities.
Analyze media impact to refine strategies.
Advise on risk management and manage communication during crises.
Write and distribute media releases effectively.
Develop positive media stories and identify strategic opportunities.
Support social policy events and government initiatives.
Skills & Experience
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
Proven experience in media engagement, especially in public affairs and government relations.
Expertise in managing traditional and digital PR channels.
Experience in media event planning and execution.
Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
Established relationships with media outlets at all levels.
Excellent communication, organizational, and strategic planning skills.
Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and think creatively.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and media management tools.
