About the Department

The Department plays a vital role in delivering a range of services that make a real difference to the lives of Queenslanders. The Finance team is responsible for the delivery of the annual consolidated budget cycle, the end of financial year consolidated financial reporting together with the provision of strategic financial management advisory services to the business areas within the Department. Finance is also concerned with the long-term business forecasts and commitments of the Department.

About the Project

Queensland Shared Services (QSS) is the department's shared services provider of the finance solution and finance services and is leading the project to transition from a customised SAP ECC6 environment to the S/4HANA Public Cloud Edition. The department has three SAP company codes within the QSS finance solution landscape, approximately 800 SAP users and multiple business systems integrations that will transition to S/4HANA. The current target go-live date is November 2026.

About the Role

The Project Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the S/4HANA Public Cloud implementation is completed successfully, within the allocated budget and timeline, ensuring the project objectives are met, including initiation and project resources through to acceptance, while maintaining a stakeholder focus. You will also undertake a leadership role to drive the project governance, process methodology and provide leadership to project staff. Job

Your Responsibilities

As the Project Manager, your responsibilities will include:

* Lead and manage a team for the end-to-end delivery of the SAP ECC6 to S/4HANA upgrade focused on finance processes (e.g., GL, AP, AR, Asset Accounting, Treasury, Controlling) with relevant project management methodologies, principles and practices.
* Act as the liaison between finance leadership, internal teams, and Queensland Shared Services.
* Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, resource allocations, and risk registers and deliver high level communication and documentation to project sponsors and other key stakeholders ensuring they are briefed on projects objectives, milestones and progress through to acceptance, whilst maintaining a stakeholder focus.
* Collaborate closely with the CFO, Finance SMEs, and IT to define, document, and deliver business requirements aligned to financial reporting, compliance, and operational efficiency.
* Ensure change impacts are analysed, and future state business processes are documented and communicated, ensuring system design supports statutory compliance requirements.
* Manage resources to ensure the complete end to end of business systems integrations including all agency and third-party systems that are required to interact with S/4HANA are reviewed, impacts and requirements identified, and integrations are redeveloped.
* Oversee data migration and validation, ensuring financial data integrity and historical continuity.
* Drive testing efforts including scenario development, UAT coordination, and issue resolution.
* Oversee change management, communication and training activities specific to finance users and leadership.
* Manage business readiness and cutover planning to ensure an effective transition to the new financial management solution and processes.
* Report project performance and health (incl. status, financial impact, progress against milestones, risks and issues) to the relevant governance board including the CFO and executive leadership teams in accordance with Queensland Government project management methodologies (based on PRINCE2).
* Ensure strong governance and project controls, and transparency throughout the project lifecycle and manage risks and issues that may impact on the successful implementation of the project, including timely escalation within a well-managed governance framework.
* Build and sustain relationships with a network of key people internally and externally. Proactively offer assistance for a mutually beneficial relationship. Anticipate and respond to internal and external client needs.
* Promote and support a workplace culture of equity, diversity, respect and inclusion, and proactively manage the work performance and personal conduct of your staff. Foster a workplace safety culture by adhering to WHS policies and ensuring compliance in all operations.
* Act in compliance with the department's Code of Conduct, policies, guidelines and procedures demonstrating integrity, professionalism, and ethical behaviour in all activities.

We are looking to find the person best suited to the role considering the skills, experience, qualifications, knowledge and behaviours/personal qualities that you would bring to the role.

* Demonstrate strong skills in program/project management relating to ensure all project deliverables, milestones, and reporting requirements are met within agreed timeframes and budgets.
* Establish clear plans for project completion and manage delivery of project activities within agreed project timeframes. Prioritise effort to ensure activities are coordinated, timely and consider both internal and external stakeholder needs. Respond in a positive and flexible manner to change and uncertainty and share information with others to assist them to adapt.
* Provide direction to others regarding the purpose and importance of their work. Illustrate the relationship between operational tasks and organisational goals. Set work tasks that align with the strategic objectives and communicate expected outcomes.
* Take personal responsibility for meeting objectives and progressing work. Show initiative and proactively step in to manage issues and risks when required. Commit energy and drive to see that goals are achieved.
* Confidently present messages in a clear, concise and articulate manner. Focus on key points and uses appropriate, unambiguous language. Select the most appropriate medium for conveying information and structures written and oral communication to ensure clarity.
* Build and sustain relationships with a network of key people internally and externally. Proactively offer assistance for a mutually beneficial relationship. Anticipate and respond to internal and external client needs.

While there are no mandatory qualifications for this role, the following qualifications and experience are highly desirable:

* Certification in PRINCE2, Agile and/or other project management methodologies
* Significant work experience with large scale/complex IT projects and/or S/4HANA implementations
* Experience in finance management and finance services delivery
