The Role
This permanent Accountant role plays a key part in supporting Pacific Blue's finance function, providing accounting and commercial support to assist the business in achieving its goals and objectives. The position contributes to accurate financial reporting, business performance, and informed decision-making across the organisation, with a primary focus on the fixed asset space.
Working closely with the Finance team and broader business stakeholders, this is a broad and dynamic role with exposure to multiple areas of the organisation. The role requires strong attention to detail, along with the ability to interpret, process, and clearly communicate financial information to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
This is a full‐time, permanent position based in Melbourne.
What you'll be responsible for:
Accounting and Budgeting
* Build and maintain strong relationships with operations, development, and delivery teams, providing regular financial insights, project status updates, and KPI reporting
* Partner with cost centre managers to deliver financial support, including cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and general accounting advice aligned to business plans and lifecycle models
* Perform core accounting activities, including intercompany accounting and invoicing, balance sheet reconciliations, and preparation of journals (including prepayments)
Project and Fixed Asset Accounting
* Lead the preparation and analysis of CAPEX, development, and construction reporting against budget and forecast, including monthly rolling forecasts
* Partner with development and delivery teams to monitor project performance and financial outcomes
* Manage fixed asset accounting, including maintenance of the fixed asset register, asset capitalisation, disposals, and depreciation
* Oversee Asset Under Construction (AUC) accounts, ensuring timely and accurate capitalisation when assets are ready for use
Reporting and Compliance
* Prepare monthly CAPEX and fixed asset reports and contribute to management reporting packs and business reviews
* Support audit processes and broader compliance requirements, ensuring obligations are actively maintained and up to date
Other Responsibilities
* Support vendor setup and administration, ABS survey reporting, and time allocation analysis across projects
* Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance financial processes and reporting efficiency
To be successful in this role you will have:
Knowledge and Experience
* Studying towards CA/CPA
* Basic knowledge and understanding of accounting standards and Australian taxes
* Basic understanding of the key components of the management and statutory reporting processes as well as tax compliance processes in Australia
* Basic understanding of risk management frameworks
* SAP experience will be highly regarded
Skills
* Ability to operate an integrated accounting system effectively and efficiently
* Ability to work autonomously and be a collaborative team player
* Advanced Excel and basic MS Office skills
* Ability to identify business process, systems and reporting improvements
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Organise and prioritise work to ensure team goals and objectives are met
* Analyse data and transform it into meaningful information for users
