Ripley Valley State Secondary College is seeking applications for a Teacher Aide to join the team. As a Teacher Aide, you will contribute to the provision of a quality educational service by delivering high-level support for teaching and learning, applying specialised knowledge, working with limited direction, and using initiative and sound judgement. You will also provide essential support within classrooms and other learning environments across the College to enhance student learning outcomes. Our College

Ripley Valley State Secondary College opened in 2020 and is a rapidly growing secondary school located in South Ripley. The College has quickly established a reputation for high expectations, innovation, inclusion and strong connections with the community. As the College continues to grow, we are seeking a highly capable and experienced Teacher Aide to assist teachers and students within the classroom.


The Opportunity

As a Teacher Aide (TAOO4), you will contribute to the provision of a quality educational service by providing high-level support for teaching and learning. The TAOO4 role involves specialised knowledge, working with limited direction, and the use of initiative and sound judgement. The Teacher Aide reports to the Principal, or their nominated delegate, and provides high-level support for teaching and learning within classrooms and other learning environments across the College.


The Role

Teacher Aides play a vital role in the life and functioning of our College. The ideal applicant will have the ability to work effectively with others, both individually and as a member of a team. Teacher Aides often support students with learning difficulties and diverse learning needs. On a day-to-day basis, the role may include supervising independent senior study groups, supporting teachers in the provision of learning materials, working with small group interventions, and assisting individual students. Ideally, successful applicants will be able to use, or be willing to learn to use, a range of technology such as iPads, laptops and basic Microsoft Office software.


Key Responsibilities

* Assist and support teachers in the preparation and delivery of high-quality and effective teaching and learning programs that are consistent with relevant syllabi, curriculum policies, work programs and educational trends.
* Support students in a variety of settings by actively developing supportive learning environments and using effective behaviour management practices.
* Assist teachers to provide for the physical, social, cultural and emotional wellbeing and safety of students, and support their development as effective citizens and responsible young adults through both timetabled and extra‑curricular activities.
* Contribute to the welfare, health and safety of students, including the delivery of first aid (with appropriate training and current qualifications, funded by the school).
* Assist students with special needs. This may, in certain circumstances, include moving and positioning students, assisting with meals, toileting and dressing, and supporting students who are unable to care for themselves (with suitable training provided).
* Work across a number of areas that may require knowledge of policies and procedures, hygiene monitoring, behaviour management, communication devices and strategies, physiotherapy, first aid, classroom duties, assisting in program delivery and supporting students to remain on task.
* Exercise a high level of initiative in accomplishing objectives, either independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Supervise a work group or function as required, ensuring appropriate standards, completion of work assignments and allocation of resources.
* Maintain anecdotal records on students for use in reviewing student development.
* Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with staff, students, parents and the wider community, in line with the Queensland Government Code of Conduct and the department's Standard of Practice.
