We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled SQL Developer to join a leading retail organization based in Melbourne for an ongoing 6-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity to leverage your expertise in a agile environment, contributing to critical data initiatives within a large-scale enterprise.
The Role: As a SQL Developer, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and optimizing robust SQL-based solutions. You will work on various aspects of the data lifecycle, from data ingestion to reporting and performance enhancement.
Responsibilities
Design and Development: Architect and implement efficient and scalable SQL Server solutions, including stored procedures, functions, views, and complex queries.
Data Engineering: Develop and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to integrate data from various sources into the data warehouse.
BI Reporting Support: Collaborate with BI teams to ensure data availability and performance for reporting tools and dashboards.
Database Performance Tuning: Proactively identify and resolve database performance bottlenecks. Optimize existing SQL code, indexes, and database configurations for improved efficiency and speed.
PL/SQL Optimization: Specifically focus on optimizing existing PL/SQL code for enhanced performance and resource utilization.
System Performance Enhancements: Contribute to overall system performance improvements through database-level optimizations and collaboration with broader IT teams.
Troubleshooting & Support: Provide expert support for SQL-related issues, ensuring data integrity and system availability.
Qualifications
Proven experience as a SQL Developer with a strong understanding of relational database design principles.
Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server (or similar enterprise-level SQL databases).
Deep expertise in SQL query optimization, indexing strategies, and database performance tuning techniques.
Solid experience with ETL processes and tools (e.g., SSIS or similar).
Demonstrable experience with PL/SQL optimization and understanding of Oracle database concepts (if applicable to their environment).
Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and BI reporting requirements.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced team environment.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Desirable
Experience within the retail sector.
Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS).
